About Corum Watches
The House of Corum was founded in 1955 in the Swiss town La Chaux-de-Fonds, a relative newcomer to the long running traditions of fine Swiss watchmaking. Established by Gaston Ries and Renee Bannwart, Corum quickly set itself apart from traditional watchmakers of the day with a number of models that defied traditional aesthetic expectations. Known now for both their technical excellence and aesthetic appeal, Corum has established itself a leader in combining high quality, precision timepieces with creative, even daring, styling.
An early example of Corum’s striking aesthetic was the Chinese Hat Collection, introduced in 1958. Inspired by the pyramid shaped head covering worn by the people of China, the bezel resembles the hat’s brim. Another novel model was their Coin Watch, introduced in 1964. With an ultra-thin movement set in a genuine $20 Double Eagle gold coin, this watch was worn by numerous US presidents and Nobel Prize laureates, and is still in production today.
In 1966 Corum introduced the Romvlvs watch, with the unique feature of engraved numerals on the bezel rather than the dial. That small but significant design detail is still informing the Romvlvs Revival watches of today, including the delicately bejewelled Sublissima model for women.
Corum’s Bubble watch lives up to its name with its 8mm thick ‘bubble’ style sapphire crystal. The popularity of the whimsical design when it was introduced in 2000 was enough for it to be reintroduced in 2015. The Corum Bubble is available in many variations, from skeletonized examples to models with brightly colored dials. The almost cartoonish look of the dial magnifying crystal make it one of the most ‘fun’ looking high-end watches available today.
At the height of technical excellence and innovation is Corum’s Golden Bridge. Conceived by watchmaker Vincent Calabrese and released to the public in 1980, the watch features a hand-engraved, in-line baguette movement with linear gear trains. The movement is mounted within a transparent exterior in such a way that it appears to float within the case, with no visible connection. This exceptionally slender movement was an instant sensation, and continues to represent Corum’s unique blend of fine watch manufacturing and cutting edge aesthetics.
Probably the most iconic watch in Corum’s history is the Admiral. Inspired by the famous Admiral’s Cup yacht race, the Admiral was originally introduced in 1960 with a square case and hand engraved sailboat on the caseback. The model was completely re-envisioned in 1983, and is now instantly recognizable with a 12 sided bezel and colorful nautical pendants around the dial. Contemporary Admiral models include the skeletonized Admiral Legend 47, the Legend 47 Worldtimer, and a large selection of Admiral Legend 42 Chronographs, available in in a variety of dial colors and styles.
Diamond Estate Jewelry Buyers isn’t only the best place to sell a Corum watch, we also are the best way to sell a Blancpain watch for a generous cash offer.
