About Alan Friedman Jewelry

Alan Friedman was a luxury jewelry designer based in Los Angeles, known for his groundbreaking work with naturally colored diamonds, particularly pink diamonds from the Argyle mines in Australia. Widely referred to as the “King of Pinks” for his multicolor creations, Friedman’s legacy is one of dedication to both clients and craftsmanship.

Friedman was a third generation jeweler, and was raised at his family’s Omaha jewelry store, Borsheim’s, the largest independent jewelry store in the United States. By age 10, Alan had graduated from sweeping the shop floor to sales, and in a few more years had become an in-house designer for Borsheim, and a top salesman. When the store was sold to billionaire Warren Buffett, Friedman was able to help the business shift its focus from quantity to quality.

After earning a graduate gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America, Friedman relocated to California where he worked as a freelance designer, selling pieces all over the country. In the mid 90s, Friedman purchased over a million dollars worth of pink diamonds at a time when demand for the stones was low. Friedman came to be regarded as an expert on the rare gems, and his work with pink diamonds remains in high demand.

Friedman was the recipient of numerous design awards, including the American Gem Trade Association’s “Best Use of Color” and “First Place Casual Wear” awards in 2002, and the prestigious “Best of Show” award in 2003.
