About Audemars Piguet
Audemars Piguet is a traditional luxury watchmaking company based in La Brassus Switzerland. Founded in 1874, the house is the oldest in Haute Horlogerie which has never been sold by the founding family. Widely known for its high-class mechanical watches that balance tradition with innovation, Audemars Piguet’s iconic Royal Oak model helped define the brand in the 1970s, and revolutionized the luxury sports watch market.
The company takes its name from its two founders, Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, whose partnership was based on a productive division of labor: Audemars produced and assembled the movements and Piguet ensured that the movements were precisely regulated. Their early work was in complicated pocket watches, and featured models with a perpetual calendar, chronograph, and minute repeater.
In 1891, Audemars Piguet produced the smallest repeater movement in the world, and they began to focus on making wristwatches by 1893, though fob watches were still prevalent. In 1920 they produced a fob watch with 16 complications, including a tourbillon, equation of time indicator, and a blue enamel dial engraved with stars that reproduced the night sky above London.
Innovations continued to follow into the 20th century, including increasingly smaller and flatter movements, and a re-introduction of the skeleton watch in 1934.
Audemars Piguet’s biggest success by far was the introduction of the Royal Oak in 1972. The first true luxury watch with a steel case and integrated bracelet, the look was like no other. Inspired by a diver’s brass helmet, the Royal Oak features an eight sided bezel with exposed hexagonal screws and visible water resistance gaskets. The watch was shocking not just for its look, but its price as well. Initial sales were slow, but eventually the Royal Oak defined the niche of exclusive, super-luxury watches.
Diamond Estate Jewelry Buyers isn’t only the best place to sell a Audemars Piguet watch, we also are the best way to sell a Bvlgari watch for a generous cash offer.
